Finally, I have a job ...

26th December, 2005 was a great day for me. This was the day that I got placed - with Infosys. But the 24 hours prior to this decision were perhaps the most tiring hours for me. This year the PlaceCom tried to come up with a format that makes the whole process transparent. So, we abolished the concept of Day 0. All companies were asked to come on Day 1 or Day 2, thereby avoiding any skirmishes on ethical issues. This was one of the most commendable jobs done by PlaceCom. But it also made things taxing for us. On Sunday, we had all the PPTs and GDs (any elimination rounds) by all major recruiters. This started at 9:00 in the morning and continued
upto 2:30 in the night. All this was very exhaustive - by the night, I was in two GDs and was so tired that I almost dozed off in the GDs, save the noise that made me stay awake.

Then the interviews started on Monday. We were told to be ready for it by 5:00 in the morning. I got just a 2.5 hrs. of sleep in two days. From the morning itself, I was a bit tensed - 'cause I had only 3 interviews lined up for the day. And I waited till 8:30 for my first interview. And in the next half an hour, I had a job with me. But the time from 5 in the morning to 8:30 was the most extracting of all.

This time we also had a dual-offer system in place, which a few of us (including me) used - presumably because of the tensions running wild.

The only setback - one of the top 5 consulting firms in the world came here for placements (for the first time in the history of TAPMI, to the best of my knowledge) but had to return without and job offer. They had finalized only on 1 person and were not willing to offer the job to the next in line (the selected person dropped out). So, whether this firm would come the next time is anybody's guess.
